The Director of Environmental Services assumes administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for providing housekeeping, laundry and floor technician services to create a safe, sanitary, comfortable and homelike environment for residents, staff and visitors.

This position manages employees to provide services according to facility philosophy, consistent with state and federal regulations. In collaboration with the Nursing Home Administrator (NHA), this position will allocate resources in an efficient and economic manner to ensure that housekeeping and laundry services are provided and that services rendered enhance the quality of life in the facility. 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: 

- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide housekeeping and laundry procedures to achieve and maintain a safe, comfortable, sanitary and homelike environment. 

- Able to competently operate department equipment and recognize when maintenance or repair is needed. 

- Current knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations, including relevant building and safety codes that apply to Housekeeping and Laundry services in long term care facilities. 

- Makes prompt efforts to resolve all resident concerns and grievances related to housekeeping and laundry services. 

- Management skills sufficient to oversee the organization and supervision of departmental staff to include but not limited to, conducting performance evaluations to ensure staff can perform the essential functions of their job, and taking appropriate action as appropriate. 

- Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information and demonstrates knowledge and respect for the rights and dignity of each resident. 

- Availability to be on an on-call basis to meet facility’s needs. 

- Working knowledge of and ability to comply with facility policies and procedures for; workplace safety, infection control procedure, application of universal precautions for blood borne pathogens, use of personal protective equipment, and handling of hazardous material. 

- Able to communicate efficiently in written and/or oral communication to interact with interdisciplinary team; residents, staff members, representatives of the community and government agencies.
